If you use SMB to connect a NAS which includes a large number of files on Mac, the Mac system needs time to analyze data information of file one by one. That is reason why you cannot find any file via SMB on Mac.
The more files stored in NAS, the more time it takes.
You can access NAS via AFP temporarily or wait for Mac to finish.
